Sex Toy Review: Vanity by Jopen – the Vr17

by Coleen Singer

To call the Vanity Vr17 a “Sex Toy” is just not the correct name for it.  This is truly a “form-follows-function-follows-form” work of engineering and design art!  Jopen has taken pleasure product design to a whole new level with this fabulous new incarnation of the traditional “Rabbit vibrator“.

The first thing I noticed when taking it out of the box was the completely seamless coverage in satin finish silicone.  No buttons!  The entire device can be used from end to end, leaving the possibilities only limited by the imagination.  But, it’s a “vibrator“, so where are the buttons, I asked myself.  Ahhh…. they are under the silicone right where buttons normally would be, but completely covered!  Nice touch, Jopen!  Also included in the rather plain yet tasteful box is a velvet storage bag, the AC plugin adapter for recharging the batteries and a handy instruction guide which does a good job at showing how to use the many diverse power features of the unit.

When reviewing pleasure products, I generally leave the specs until the end, but these are so impressive that I’m including them early in the review just to illustrate how much the Vr17 is the “Rolls Royce of Rabbit Vibrators”:

  • Rechargeable rabbit vibrator with pinpoint tickler
  • Complete charge in 3 hours
  • Independent intense incremental speed controls
  • Dual motors: Vibrating Teaser Rotating Shaft
  • Instant on/off function
  • Easy to follow instructions included

On to my observations….

The Vr15 comes with the controls locked. To unlock the controls, simply push down both buttons for 4 seconds. The light under the top button will illuminate and once it’s unlocked, both buttons will light up. The controls are simplicity redefined: The top button controls the shaft, the bottom controls the clitoral stimulator. The buttons work by pushing and holding down the button until you reach the desired strength. The lights under the button then blink according to the strength of the vibrations while you are pushing down the button and change to a constant light when you either reach max strength or stop pressing the button. To turn off the toy you simply press the button again. You can turn off this toy in a second, which avoids the common situation with other vibrators that are hard to turn off when you need it to.

My first step was to plug in the Vr15 and charge it for 3 hours. The charging port for the Vr15 is a little hole at the very bottom of the toy. The male fitting of the plug is very slim and fits very snugly into the hole.

The shaft of the Vr15 swirls in a circular motion to stimulate the g-spot. The shaft is firm but not hard underneath the silicone except for the tip. The design of the tip is VERY clever.  In its default placement, it is very flexible, but for those that want a little more firmness at the tip, this is adjustable by simply squeezing the tip down onto the shaft to the desired location. The clitoral stimulator is firmly attached to the shaft (which I read described as an “Elephant Trunk Shape” (which is kind of a creepy way to describe anything on a sex toy!), but it is moveable to fit snugly against the body. It took a bit of experimentation in adjusting the clit stimulator to the right position, but once all set, I found the pattern and intensity of vibration was just right – not so firm as to be annoying, but not so flexible as to be fluttering around all over the wrong places. The tip of the clitoral stimulator has 3 little tongues. The top tongue is the longest and the two bottom tongues are much shorter. Then the stimulator is turned on the longer tongue flicks around to stimulate the clitoris, leaving the remaining two for labia stimulation.

Coleen’s Test Drive:
So. the much anticipated 3 hours of charging were complete.  All of the features had been explored and it was time to give the Vr17 a ride.  For this one, I decided to bring this luxurious vibrator into my luxurious featherbed (rather than into the bathtub, which often just confuses the sense for a test).  To complete the hedonism, I turned down the lights, lit up a few candles, put on some cool jazz and, just to take it over the edge, fired up some incense.

At this point, I was already totally wet from the anticipation of trying out the Vr17, so no lub was even slightly needed.  Insertion was a joy.  Although it has a “silky skin”, there was virtually no “drag” like I have experienced with other silicone insertables. After a bit of experimentation to determine depth and range of the shaft, I decided to go for the gold and turn on the power for a G-Spot session.  BINGO!  right on target within seconds.  After adjusting the rotation and intensity a bit, I found my “happy spot” and within a minute had a very pleasing, deep G-Spot orgasm.

After catching my breath and letting my nerve endings calm down a bit, I gave the clit arm stimulator a go at it.  I’m not sure if it was because I was just coming down from a G-Spot orgasm, but I found this half of the test drive less stimulating.  The little flaps at the top of the arm just seemed to have a mind of their own and it took quite a bit of focus and control to get them into the right position to tease my clit the way i like.  But, patience prevailed and a 2nd happy ending eventually came about 🙂

Conclusions:
The Jopen Vanity Vr17 is a remarkable feat of pleasure product engineering (as it should for the retail price of around $170!).  The materials are high quality, the motor has more than enough “Oooomph” to do the job and the design is simply beautiful.  It served me better for G-Spot stimulation than clitoral play, but it really can serve both functions with a little experimentation and adjustment. And my favorite parts (here is my design geek side coming out again), i LOVE that the buttons and illumination lights are under the silicone, and that you can do manual adjustments to the tip and clitoral arm to get them where you need them!
